The Co-Rotating Parallel Twin Screw Pelletizer (twin screw compounding extruder) represents the industry standard for continuous plastic compounding, reactive extrusion, masterbatch manufacturing, and polymer alloy blending. Utilizing modular segmented screws and intermeshing bi-metallic barrels assembled on high-torque splined shafts, the extruder provides precise, independently controllable thermo-mechanical energy input across separate process zones: conveying, melting, distributive mixing, dispersive shearing, devolatilization, and pressure pressurization.
Unlike single screw extruders with static geometry, the co-rotating twin screw configuration delivers self-wiping, positive-displacement conveying that prevents resin stagnant hang-up and thermal degradation. Combined with customizable high-speed, high-torque distribution gearboxes, side-feeders for delicate or abrasive fillers (such as talc, CaCO3, glass fibers, and flame retardants), and multi-stage vacuum degassing ports, the twin screw pelletizing system ensures molecular-level additive dispersion, narrow residence time distribution, and consistent melt homogeneity across high-output production runs.

Processes a wide array of thermoplastic matrices, including polyolefins (PP, PE, HDPE, LDPE), engineering resins (PA6, PA66, ABS, PC, PBT, POM, PET), and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE, TPU, TPV, EVA). Accepts thermoplastic virgin polymer pellets, recycled regrind flakes, micro-powders, color masterbatch, mineral fillers (CaCO3, talc, barium sulfate, TiO2, wollastonite), flame retardants, and reinforcing fibers (chopped glass fibers, carbon fibers).
Feedstocks are introduced into the extruder main feed throat via single/twin-screw volumetric feeders or continuous loss-in-weight gravimetric dosing units. Delicate or light mineral fillers and fibers are force-fed into downstream melt zones via modular side-feeders.
Delivers a fully plasticized, thoroughly homogenized, devolatilized polymer melt stream at uniform temperature and controlled pressure.
Melt discharges through an automated hydraulic screen changer directly into downstream pelletizing systems (the turnkey Strand Pelletizer System, water ring die, or underwater pelletizer die plate) for conversion into uniform, bubble-free plastic granules.
Throughput

Extruder throughput ratings are determined by screw diameter (typically 35 mm to 135 mm), L/D aspect ratio (36:1 to 52:1), drive motor kW, specific torque density (Nm/cm³), and screw RPM (up to 600–900 rpm).
Usable production output depends heavily on polymer melt flow index (MFI), filler loading percentage, bulk density of feedstocks, and feed rate limitation of side-feeders. High-loading mineral compounds (e.g. 70%–80% CaCO3 masterbatch) run at higher mass throughputs due to high melt density, whereas engineering polymers (such as PA66 with 30% glass fiber) are limited by screw motor torque and shear temperature control.

Installation planning
These are the connections the machine and the line around it have to agree on before the layout is fixed.
Mechanical: Rigid steel base skid leveled and anchored to plant floor; downstream discharge end terminates in standard circular hydraulic clamp flange for screen changers, melt gear pumps, or die heads.
Electrical & Automation: Three-phase industrial power supply to the floor-standing electrical drive and control cabinet (380V/415V/460V, 50/60 Hz). Control system provides Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or Modbus-TCP communications to upstream loss-in-weight feeders, downstream pelletizers, and factory MES/SCADA networks, along with hardwired emergency stop interlock loops.
The buyer provides a reinforced level concrete foundation slab capable of carrying the dynamic and static loads of the extruder, motor, gearbox, and downstream lines. Buyer is responsible for bringing main primary electrical cables to the line control cabinet, supplying continuous chilled/cooling water with filtration, piping dry compressed air, providing floor drainage trenches, and connecting outdoor exhaust ducting from the vacuum pump and barrel shroud vents.
Spare parts
The parts that wear in normal service, and the spares worth keeping on site. How often a part is replaced depends on the material and the duty the machine runs, so the basis is confirmed for each machine.
Inspect every 3,000–6,000 operating hours; replace when radial clearance between screw outer diameter and barrel wall exceeds engineering tolerance (typically > 0.5–0.8 mm).
High-wear kneading elements (KB45/5, KB90/5) located in the melting and mixing zones. Critical for melt shearing and pigment dispersion. Keep one complete spare set of high-wear screw segments in reserve; specify shaft spline type and element metallurgy when ordering.
Inspect annually using precision internal bore gauges; replace or reline when internal wear ovality causes melt bypass and loss of throughput.
Modular barrel segments, particularly at the side-feeder injection zone and initial melting zones subjected to high abrasive wear.
Inspect electrical resistance during quarterly PM; replace immediately upon open-circuit failure or temperature drifting > ±3°C.
Cast aluminum or ceramic heating bands and dual J/K-type thermocouples installed across all barrel heating zones.
Calibrate semi-annually; replace if transducer diaphragm is dented, damaged by solidified resin, or exhibits non-linear signal drift.
Installed at the extruder discharge barrel zone to monitor melt pressure and melt temperature before the screen changer. Critical for machine safety interlocks.
Inspect semi-annually; descale cooling manifold channels and replace valve coils or internal diaphragms if valves fail to close tight or stick.
Direct-acting high-temperature solenoid valves controlling cooling water injection into individual barrel cooling jackets.
